Green & Healthy Festival moves into the heartland

Located in the heart of Singapore’s largest residential area, Our Tampines Hub (OTH) is the first ever hub in Singapore where residents can enjoy dining, retail, sports, arts and cultural activities, and enhance community bonds. It is an ideal place for this year’s Green & Healthy Festival held on Sunday 20 October 2019.

Brisk sales for healthy products

Visitors thronged the many stalls selling eco-friendly products, vegan and vegetarian foods, cooked foods, organic foods, and personal care products. Many of the stalls had sold out of stock well before the closing time of 7pm, a good indication that people are willing to spend on healthy foods and products.

Among them was Ms Angela of Align Bakery who is a self-taught baker.  “I want people to make healthy food choices. My vegan bakes are healthy. I use healthy, organic ingredients. I don’t use margarine or white sugar. I use organic whole wheat flour and organic molasses,” said Ms Angela, founder of Align Bakery.

Another stall that did brisk sales was Everyday Vegan. “I am committed to sustainability and fair trade,” said founder Amanda Teng. “I work with amazing “vegan wizards” who create magical products out of nothing. I want to make these wonderful products available to the public.” Everyday Vegan sells products vegan chocolates, perfumes, and wallets.

Engaging talks and entertaining performances

Visitors were also attracted to the talks on the benefits of plant-based foods, cooking demos, and presentations on eco-friendly products. Audiences were also engaged by the lively songs and dances from International Nature Loving Association (INLA) and a visiting youth group from Sri Lankaramaya Sunday School from Sri Lanka.

There were various cooking demos for those looking for ideas on how to make healthy dishes. For example, Mindful Diet and Cooking by Venerable YanDing, Smoothie Making Demo by Kuan Ming Chen, and Indian Dessert Making by Ambaree Majumdar.

With busy crowds throughout the day visiting the Green & Healthy Festival and participating in its activities and sampling achieved its aim of reaching out to the general public to raise the awareness of adopting green and healthy lifestyles.
